Artist Statement
Casey Orsini has her Fine Arts degree from Western Connecticut State University. She received her Master’s in Art Therapy and Counseling from Albertus Magnus College. Casey has always had a love of art in any form, but her main focuses are painting and film photography. When forging her career path, she wanted to build a bridge between her artistic self and her desire to help others. She has worked with adults with intellectual disabilities and autism in a studio art space, and currently works with children in a trauma center, focusing on using art as an intervention to heal and grow.
Casey has found that using an art therapy approach to her own art creation has helped her open up in a whole new way of painting, going to the canvas without a plan, but rather emotion. Colors represent feelings, textures represent thoughts. Some of her paintings can be completed in a matter of weeks, others are ongoing and can take years. This all depends on the emotions behind the piece; whether or not the thoughts are ready to be let go.
